Updates and things

Oregon State update:

LaVonda Wagner's firing is putting Oregon State University in a bind. What a convoluted bunch of comments by Athletic Director Bob De Carolis. Does he know what he's doing? He said the job would be posted in 10 days, but it's been posted. The hiring committee unfortunately includes De Carolis.

On the coaching honors tip:

Cal Coach Joanne Boyle will help choose the USA Basketball U18 team next week.

Venerated Coach Kathy Richey-Walton will coach the USA Basketball Women's Youth Olympic Games Team.

On the WNBA tip:

Angel McCoughtry and Lauren Jackson were named the Eastern and Western Conference players of the month of May, respectively.

Tina Charles is still on top of the rookie rankings, but the mighty Monica Wright is just behind her.

Ashley Walker talks with leftcoasthoops about her pickup by Tulsa.

On the male hoops tip:

The Washington Post reported earlier that legendary former UCLA coach John Wooden was dead. But he hasn't died - he's extremely ill, and in the hospital. I just checked the LA Times site again, and that story is still up, so I guess nothing has changed for now. My thoughts certainly go out to Coach Wooden.

To no one's surprise, Candace Parker is rooting for the Celtics over the Lakers in the NBA playoffs.
