I didnt think he was either until I looked him up on Wikipedia

"Not to be confused with Paul Westphal."

Paul Westhead (born February 21, 1939 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) was an assistant basketball coach for the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA, and a former coach in the NBA, NCAA and the WNBA. He has coached three NBA teams, as well as the Loyola Marymount University men's basketball team during that school's era of greatest basketball glory. Westhead is known for an unorthodox, run-and-gun style. He attended Saint Joseph's University. It was announced on March 26, 2009 Coach Westhead would take over for Bev Smith as Head Coach of the University of Oregon's Womans Basketball program.

and of course Paul Westphal is:
Paul Westphal (born November 30, 1950) is an American former basketball player and head coach in the NBA. He is currently an assistant coach with the Dallas Mavericks. A native of California, Westphal has had a storied career in the NBA, both as a player and as a head coach. From 2001-2006, Westphal was the men's basketball head coach at Pepperdine University. He then worked as a studio analyst for Fox Sports Net West/Prime Ticket for Los Angeles Clippers and Los Angeles Lakers.

Then there is the other Paul Westphal that you sat next to at the Nike Extravaganza at MDHS

And since he left, the Mercury have never been the same.

Some on the message boards are decrying the choice, but I can't think of anyone else who's available right now who would be better.
