Rough day

More on Cal State Fullerton:

The athletics department had a press conference earlier today to address the killing of assistant basketball coach Monica Quan and her fiancee. Head Coach Marcia Foster said:

"A really bright light was put out way too soon — someone whose passion was impacting young women with the game of basketball. As an assistant, she was someone I counted on to tell me the truth. I loved that about her; I loved her work ethic and her passion for life. We've got some work to do; we've got to do something to stop this violence. Too many women are being impacted by it."

There is no clear motive in the two deaths at this time.

ACL devastation:

Silver Stars forward Sophia Young's injury in China last week was a torn ACL. She will undergo surgery in San Antonio this week.

UConn guard Brianna Banks will miss the remainder of the season after tearing her ACL.

More college news:

Notre Dame Coach Muffet McGraw is eying win 700.

Duke freshman Alexis Jones is off to a flying start.

The University of Washington's winning record is helping the Pac-12 get more respect.

Far from home, South Alabama's Camille Reynolds remains close to family.

Cal's win in Oregon yesterday was Coach Lindsay Gottlieb's 100th.

Tonight's results:

#8 Penn State withstood #13 Purdue's rally for the 69-61 win.

Michigan State topped Michigan, 61-46.

Full scoreboard.

WNBA:

Jennifer Gillom will join the Connecticut Sun staff as an assistant coach.

Great story about the team full of sisters. I wondered about why "Bullettes" and found out that the boys' teams are "Bulldogs." Hmmm.

The sibling story is very cool. It's totally true that if you grow up playing with a sib you have something special going on when the chips are down in competition. It's a beautiful thing.
