Sparks trade Temeka Johnson to Mercury for 2010 pick

Fresh off the Sparks HG email wire:

SPARKS TRADE TEMEKA JOHNSON TO THE PHOENIX MERCURY FOR 2010 FIRST ROUND PICK

LOS ANGELES, CA – The Los Angeles Sparks have traded point guard Temeka Johnson to the Phoenix Mercury in exchange for the Mercury's 2010 first round draft pick. Johnson was selected by the Washington Mystics in the first round (sixth overall) in 2005. The 2005 WNBA Rookie of Year joined the Sparks in March 2006 along with Murriel Page when the Sparks traded Nikki Teasley to the Mystics. During her time with the Sparks, Johnson averaged 6.4 points and 4.0 assists in 66 games.

"We want to thank Temeka for her contribution to our team over the past three seasons," said Vice President and General Manager Penny Toler.

The two-time WNBA Champion Sparks open the season on June 6th at the STAPLES Center against the Defending Champion Detroit Shock at 11:30am. To secure your seats visit www.lasparks.com or call 877-44-SPARKS.

Interesting. But then again, not surprising considering the length of time Johnson was in Coach Michael Cooper's dog house last season, and the visible tension between them after that.
