Statement games

Some teams making statements today:

#7 Oregon State gutted USC, 68-35.

#12 Stanford dominated Washington State, 75-56.

#19 Princeton cruised past Dartmouth, 83-65.

Cal routed Washington, 82-58.

More results:

Oklahoma State squeaked by Iowa State, 63-62.

Kansas State edged Texas Tech, 41-38.

Marist downed Iona, 63-58, for their third straight win.

BYU survived Santa Clara, 58-56.

Oregon sweeps UCLA:

Jillian Alleyne scored a last-second layup to propel Oregon over UCLA, 67-65. The Ducks sweep the season series with the Bruins, after beating them Jan. 5.

UCLA lead at halftime, 42-33. My former junior high school teacher, who I've known for over 35 years, was there and she was texting me (yes, she texts at 73) that it didn't look good. Then suddenly: "nail biter." By the time I asked what the score was, she was exclaiming via the typed word that they had pulled it off. She and other Duck fans are excited by new coach Kelly Graves.

I wonder if others are too, because ESPN doesn't usually write up a brief for unranked teams.

Full scoreboard.

Player news:

Kentucky's Makayla Epps is ready for stardom now, coach Matthew Mitchell says.

Jamie Roe has found peace on the court with Texas Tech.

For Missouri's Lindsey Cunningham, confidence is key.
