Remember back in January when Windward rallied to beat Long Beach Poly in overtime, by the skin of their teeth? Well as so often happens in our sport, the tables turned in tonight's state championship games.

Long Beach Poly locked down Berkeley for the Division I Championship.

Bishop O'Dowd bested Windward for the Open Division Championship.

This is not the tables turning on Windward and Long Beach Poly. Windward lost in the open final and Poly won the D1 final with all the best D1 teams taken out to play in the open. It's the difference between losing in the NCAA title game and winning the NIT. All the teams the qualify for the open should be proud to be chosen to compete against champions, that is the highest honor. Bottom line Divisional Titles are no longer the real state title. The media should help clarify this for women's basketball fans.

The media should help clarify your opinion? NO.

Most likely Mater Dei and Santiago would have all both won D1 state titles over LB Poly and Windward would have won D4 over Serra. Did not mean to offend you in any way. I respect what you do to promote the women's game but the teams choosen for the open deserve more respect.
