McDonald's All-American nominees announced

Hard to believe, but it's time to start preparing for this year's McDonald's All-American game. This year, it's in Chicago on March 28. Here is the list of nominees (girls begin on page eight).

This list is pretty amazing. I'm sure all the right kids are on here, but the ones picked for "honorary" purposes are astounding. In my home state, two of the girls have no Division I recruiting interest whatsoever; one is not even the best player on her team and the senior girl who is is not on the list. Several Pac-12 recruits and other D-I signees earned no mention.

How are the nominees selected??

Oh, and not to mention that one of the girls who was nominated had her name mis-spelled on the list!

Dave, here's the reply I got from the MAAG publicist:

The McDonald’s All American Games Selection Committee members are divided into two groups, one focused on the male nominees and one focused on the female nominees. These committee members are considered to be “leaders of thought” in basketball in their respective committees and are made up of media, various sport association members, etc. For more information on the final team selection process, please visit www.mcdaag.com.

Thanks for checking into this Sue. Since posting my original comments, I learned that each state has a person through whom the nominations run. Thus, I quickly discerned who it must have been in my state. A few of the "suspect" selections played for an AAU coach who has a "name" locally but didn't really have close to the best team this year. This coach was likely the nominator and seems to have included the two ESPN "Top 100" players in the state and then filled it out with his own kids. The example of the player making the list over her more accomplished team mate tells the tale.... the iffy one played for the guy I am thinking of and has no D-I offers, the better one played for a different AAU team and IS D-I bound.

Oh well, one less certificate for the logical choices to hang on their wall and a nice honor for those who did get it.
