Loree Moore took in the LSU-UCLA game Tuesday.
Loree Moore had a tumultuous year, to put it mildly. The longtime New York Liberty point guard was cut by the organization early in the spring, and was promptly picked up by the Seattle Storm. Two weeks into training camp she tore her left meniscus and was released there too, as the WNBA had instituted an 11-player rule per team.
Moore, who graduated from Narbonne High School in Los Angeles and played at Tennessee, has been home for the holidays from Russia, where she is playing for Chevakata. I caught up with her at Tuesday's LSU-UCLA game at Pauley Pavilion.
She had surgery on the knee May 10, and spent the eight-week recovery period in Seattle, rooming with Storm forward Ashley Robinson - a fellow Lady Vol alumnus. Moore said she recovered quickly; she had been on a similar road at Tennessee, where she tore her left ACL in January, 2004, in the midst of her junior year. She returned the following fall for her senior year and was selected tenth in the 2005 WNBA draft.
"You have to keep working and stay strong," she said.
After the WNBA All-Star break this past summer, Moore tried out for the Atlanta Dream but didn't make the cut. She headed to Russia Sept. 23 to begin her overseas year. So far, Chevakata is 4-5.
Moore said she can recover from injury quickly because she doesn't let worries fill her mind. She feels fully rehabilitated now, and said she's been playing well lately.
"I feel really good right now," she said.
Sometimes the distance between friends and loved ones can be a strain, but Moore said it's easier to keep in touch now with Skype. She will begin her journey back to Russia tomorrow.
Moore plans to try out for the WNBA next spring.

My pleasure. It was nice to see her in such good spirits and to talk with her on the psychology tip, because she's one of those people who can come back from injury like she was never hurt. (And as a psyche buff I always find that fascinating). I sure wish it could have worked out for her on the Storm, but then again I never understood why the Liberty let her go in the first place. Hope she finds a home next summer.
I am so glad to see an update on Loree and to know that she is rebounding nicely from some disappointments. I agree that the NY Liberty letting Loree go was a ridiculous decision.
I am a HUGE fan of LMo no matter which team she plays on.
