NCAA still hoppin and poppin

Business:

The NCAA is overhauling a body of rules that would make for stronger penalties against those schools who break rules.

Transfer rules won't be as easily lifted.

Southern Methodist has fired athletic director Rick Orsini.

Conference changes:

Old Dominion has joined Conference USA.

The Atlantic-10 has added Virginia Commonwealth.

Coaching hires:

Kevin Baker is the new coach at University of Texas at Tyler.

Remember Kristin Haynie? She's now an assistant at Eastern Michigan.

Transfer:

Zakiyyah Shahid-Martin has found a home. The forward/center from St. John's will transfer to Weber State.

Other news:

Spelman College has honored Rutgers Coach C. Vivian Stringer with the Legacy of Leadership Award.

New Michigan Coach Kim Barnes-Arico kept all her recruits, and no one transferred (a true miracle).

Bonus international news:

The Russian championship team UMMC Ekatarinburg have hired the husband and wife team Olaf Lange and Sandy Brondello as their head and assistant coaches.

Oregon graduate Jasmin Holliday recently got a taste of what it would be like to play overseas.
