USC advances to WNIT semifinal

USC beat Colorado 87-70 today in the WNIT quarterfinals on the Buffs home court. Trojan guard Ashley Corral put up a career-high 32 points in the win, including a career-high seven three-point shots.

The entire team also set a program record for treys, hitting 77 percent of them. Now there's a good case for playing in the WNIT. Use every opportunity to get better.

On the other side of the bracket, Illinos State defeated Arkansas 60-49 to advance. ISU and USC play Wednesday night, with the winner to go to the championship game April 2.

Toledo and Charlotte will face off in the other semifinal.

USC and Colorado warm up. The arena has 40 rows from top to bottom. And who do we see in the stands? Lady Vol fans. We're everywhere.

SC players box out Colorado on the free throw.

When you score 32 points, as Ashley Corral did, you get interviewed on the post game show.

I agree that the lack of publicity/coverage is shameful, but what else is new with the LA Times - one of the nation's crappiest newspapers.

A couple of the star players lamented on twitter a couple weeks ago that they'd beaten Georgia and Gonzaga, so yes it's most def crossed their minds. They're a very good team, though, so I'm sure they'll be even better next year.

Thanks for reading.

Notes: Ashley Corral is in a "zone", and this is coming off the bench for the last 6 or 7 games. She is really busting her butt to get open off the screens. Offensive rebounds really opened the game vs UC on Sunday, especially in the 2nd half. I dont have the stats but their 2nd chance points had to be big.
The Road Warriors, aka The WOT, just finished up three games in a week, all on the road, and all at high altitude cities...Reno, Provo, and Boulder. They also traveled back home after each game. I hope they can handle the low altitude of Normal, Ill. on Wednesday. I believe the Wed. game at Illinois State will be streamed free. Check the ISU womens basketball page. ISU upset UCLA last season in the season opener, they are a solid mid-major . The WNIT Championship game, next Saturday, is scheduled to be on ESPNU at noon PDT.
