Interesting piece in Stack about different effects of concussions on female and male athletes:

At the current time, there’s no evidence as to why females sustain more concussions. However, a recent study published in the Journal of Athletic Training took a closer look at concussions in males and females. They found that both sexes appear to recover from concussions and are able to get back on the field in equal amounts of time, but symptoms experienced differ.

Males suffer more frequently from cognitive symptoms, including “feeling slowed down, feeling like they were in a fog, difficulty concentrating and remembering.” On the other hand, females suffer more from neurobehavioral and somatic symptoms, such as “sleeping more than usual, drowsiness, fatigue and nervousness, or headache, nausea, sensitivity to light and noise and balance problems.”
