#3 Texas goes down, leaving three unbeatens

Stunning comeback, stunning result:

Iowa State rallied from 18 down to beat #3 Texas, 59-57, handing them their first loss of the year.

Texas led by as much as 37-19 late in the first half. But Iowa State answered with a 38-13 run and the Longhorns went cold in the second half, hitting just 8 of 38 shots.

Brady Sanders had 16 points for Texas (13-1, 2-1), which held Iowa State to just Johnson's basket in the final 8:10 and still lost.

Texas let Iowa State erase its large lead in less than 10 minutes -- and Kidd Blaskowsky's 3 gave the Cyclones a 50-47 lead with 10:57 left.

Iowa State soon went cold though, and it had to rely on its defense to finish the win.

Texas scored just six points in a stretch spanning nearly 10 minutes in the second half until Brooke McCarty's 3 got the Longhorns within 57-56 Iowa State with 3:30 left.

McCarty, Sanders and Nneka Enemkpali all missed shots just before the buzzer.

Wow.

So that leaves just three undefeated Division I teams: South Carolina, Mississippi State and Princeton (the Tigers won today).

A user on the rebkell message boards named Durantula posed an interesting question earlier today: which teams will remain undefeated in conference play. Here is a list he/she compiled of such teams, thus far, in the power conferences:

Arizona St
Baylor
California
Duke
Kentucky
Louisville
Maryland
Miami
Minnesota
Mississippi St
Oklahoma
Oregon St
South Carolina
Stanford
Tennessee
Virginia

It makes you think.

Another upset:

TCU edged #16 Oklahoma State, 70-66.

Almost upset:

#5 Baylor survived West Virginia, 66-62.

More results:

It took a buzzer-beater to get Long Beach State past UC Davis, 63-60.

#18 Arizona State's 71-54 win over Arizona gives them the best start in program history, at 15-1.

Oklahoma used balanced offense to wreck Texas Tech, 75-58.

A record performance from Makenzi Morrison pulled BYU over Pepperdine, 84-78.

Full scoreboard.

I like it when coaches take the blame.

"They were better than we were at just a lot of the little things," Texas coach Karen Aston said. "We came out really flat out of halftime. I'll take responsibility for that. I probably didn't keep them on edge."

Same here. As you may recall from two weeks back, Gary Blair took full blame when TAMU fell to the UW.
