I guess that answers the Diggins question that was bouncing around here a few days ago.

"Old-School Mode ON"
All-Star teams should be selected on the basis of merit. Both current-season performance and "lifetime achievement" should be considered in a way that's as likely to "feel" right as add up.
"Old-School Mode OFF"

Little to find fault with in these selections. Biggest omissions to me were Jia Perkins (West) and Larkins (East), though I'm sure to be overlooking a somebody or three.

I'm curious to see if or how much Griner will play.

Looks like you got your answer on Griner today. I guess it will be good to honor Thompson. That said with Griner not playing and EDD questionable due to her concussion it's a bit hard to see a story line for the game. Maybe Latta finally making it. I dunno.

Griner / EDD would have been a great pitch / storyline. It's too bad.

Attendance at the All Star Break is an average of 7721 tickets per game, up 3.5% from 2012 season end of 7457. Six games since the 17th with more than 10K attendees. Mostly matinees designed to pump up the numbers. In any case it worked. A person can argue about the legitimacy of giving away that many tickets but it is what it is. We'll see what happens in the second half.

Nothing good comes out of EDD playing Saturday.

As for the game itself -- the talent and athleticism of the players will shine.
Maybe CP's Ralph Sampson act will find its rightful place?

AHA..an ESPN quickie promo just sold the game as "Candace Parker and..."

I guess Parker is as safe of a pitch as anyone for loyal W watchers. Other than that three game stretch I haven't been that impressed with her this year but they needed to promote something. I actually think Whalen is somewhat of a story.

With none of the top three rookies playing I'm seeing zero upside for the game or the league unless potential new fans / watchers tune in hoping to see Griner, EDD or Diggins and stay tuned after they discover none of them are playing.

I guess we'll see when the ratings come out. I'm still looking for tape of the knee to the head that EDD took.
