Exhibitions and recruits

Exhibition time:

Tennessee thrashed Carson-Newman 110-66 in their first exhibition game tonight. Coach Pat Summitt still found some things her team could improve on, though. But freshman Meighan Simmons had a great first night. Ya gotta appreciate this part of the second story:

Freshman Meighan Simmons, on the other hand, is still young but perhaps a bit wiser after her first game. With her parents making a surprise visit, she picked up three fouls and played five first-half minutes. She eventually returned to score 11 points, dish out five assists and show off her quickness.

“I got four hours of sleep last night pretty much,’’ Simmons said. “I was pretty excited about today.”

Further south, Louisiana Tech defeated Arkansas-Monticello 88-65. Coach Teresa Weatherspoon said "For the most part, I thought we were OK." Fair enough.

Recruiting/signing news:

Virginia superstar Elizabeth Williams has narrowed her list of schools to Tennessee and Duke.

In the meantime, emerging California star Aly Beebe is one to watch, landing on the Super 60 list of the class of 2012.

Bonus:

If the Cal coaches won't talk, the players will.
