Bellarmine-Jefferson gets a new coach

Burbank, Calif. - Remember when I went to cover the Bell-Jeff vs. Long Beach Poly game back in January, and how Bell-Jeff almost upset the then-reigning state champs? And how I was struck by Coach Bryan Camacho, who had lead his team to greatness for years?

Then remember how Camacho took a job as an assistant coach at Cal State Northridge in June, working for head Coach Jason Flowers? And how upset the Bell-Jeff community was at the loss of Camacho?

The antagonistic folks on socalhoops.com had plenty of bad to say about Camacho's replacement since then. But now they might be silenced for at least a little while, as the coach has resigned and Jaclyn Johnson has taken his place. A Bell-Jeff alum, she played at Kansas, in the WNBA and overseas. She's the school's current athletic director.

I actually have hope for this team again now.
