It's hard to get news about the most significant girls basketball happenings in the country right now, aka the viewing tournaments.
The best is the Hampton, VA Daily Press, which has not one but two player profile stories out of the Boo Williams tourney. And look at all those sidebars on the left of the page. Good job, Daily Press.
The Raleigh-Durham News Observer has jack squat on the Deep South Classic, debunking the myth that a smaller paper will more likely cover such events. I've been getting updates from the Cal Sparks director on twitter, who reports that there have been great and enthusiastic crowds at the event. Sparks power wing Deajanae Scurry made a valiant dunk attempt in her team's first game yesterday, which earned praise from Hoopgurlz.
The Herald Times of Bloomington, IN might have something on the Adidas Hardwood Classic, but I can't tell: you have to be able to log in to see the story, which may entail a subscription. Boooo!
None of the three Chicago dailies have anything on the Windy City Classic. It could have been cancelled for all we know.
If anyone out there has any game and player reports, first or second-hand, please drop them!

I attended the USJN California Classic in OC this past weekend. With the top teams from most of the local clubs attending Boo Williams or Deep South the competition wasnt that deep. There were 70 teams in the event and it was divided into 14 groups of 5 teams. Each team played the other teams in their group. There was no championship. There were about 5 venues for the event with most of the college coaches either at Vanguard Univ. or J Serra HS, which had 3 courts available.
Swish Black 1 was the best team but they are all new players except Bonnie Samuelson. They still have some rough edges to work out but they have some young talent on the team. Standouts were Bonnie Samuelson/Edison HS, Maddison Parrish/Hanford HS and a Fresno State commit, and Taylor Spears/Brea. Parrish will be the leader at the guard position and Spears really showed her defensive abilities this weekend.
The other teams that impressed me were CBC 17 Black. This team is made up mainly of girls who play for Highlands Ranch HS in Colorado(Cal Preps #1 in Colorado this past season). HRHS has been a top HS team the past few years and usually shows well at the Nike HS tournament in Arizona before Xmas.
The three girls who impressed me were forward Katelyn McDaniel #11, pg Katie Shepherd #5 and guard Lindsay Mallon #10. This team is well coached and you can tell they have played together for awhile. Another team that played well was
Sacramento Elite. They are a team I believe made up of girls who play for Sacramento HS(Cal Preps ranked 14th team in California this past season). Although I couldnt find their names the team is well coached by Michelle Massari, who spent 6 years as an asst coach for UC Davis.
Individually, a girl that impresed me was a girl who played for a team called Vegas Elite. Her name is Jade Washington #2. This young lady was all hustle all the time. She is a guard and is about 5'7". She is a 2011 grad and plays for Liberty HS in Henderson Nevada
There is a non viewing tournament next week at Mater Dei and some of the top club teams should be able to play each other. No college coaches until the July view period.
