Nebraska 74, USC 65

Destinie Gibbs tries to block the shot of Lindsey Moore

Coach Connie Yori talks with Meghin Williams

It was a game of runs, which Nebraska was only able to win in the last minute.

Ariya Crook lead USC, and all scorers, with 25 points. Lindsey Moore was the Husker's top point-getter, with 23, and Jordan Hooper added 19.

Box score.

Trojan Coach Michael Cooper credited what he called Nebraska's poise, patience and discipline at the end of the game, which he said "is what finishers do." His own team, he said, is still working on that.

"We're not finishers," he said. "Finishers make the plays that need to be made at the right times."

But he is optimistic.

"We're moving in that direction, and with practice we'll get better," he said.

The Trojans are also working on their defense, which Cooper said is a cornerstone of any elite team.

Watched both the USC and UCLA games on the PAC12 channel. Not very impressive.

SC's defense in particular was atrocious. Next time you see Cooper remind him of what Back Door means when it comes to roundball defense. It's one thing to have a young team, but lack of defensive effort and intensity shouldn't be an option at the D1 level. Particularly given Coopers defensive resume.

Might be nice to see some fans at the Galen Center. I watched the Nebraska game to see one of my all-time favorite Washington state players, Lindsey Moore, in action and after seeing all the empty maroon chairs had to look up the attendance figure later.... 674. By comparison, with no advance article in the local papers and nothing on its own website and going up against a home football game on Saturday in "tiny" Las Cruces, New Mexico State drew nothing-to-brag-about but better than SC crowds of just under 1000 for games with George Mason and UC-Irvine, not a strong Big 10 team with outstanding talent playing in a major American city.

Nothing new there, Dave. I've discussed that issue in this space before. I also bitched out people on twitter yesterday.
