Leading the Montreat College Cavaliers of North Carolina over Virginia Intermont today was one of Los Angeles' finest, Mykiea Russell. The five-foot point guard had a career-high 37 points, which included 10 three-pointers. She also had 10 assists and seven rebounds.
HOT DAMN!
I'm not surprised. Mykiea starred in the best high school game I have ever seen. She was Los Angeles City Section First Team two years in a row, and captivated people around the region with the lion's heart she brought to every game. At Umpqua Community College in Oregon, she literally made new fans at each away contest for the same reason (I witnessed it in person). Mykiea was also a team leader at UCC. Since arriving at Montreat this year, she has broken the school assist record twice. Now this 37-point display.
Good job, Mykiea. You are an excellent reminder that anything is possible if you believe and work hard.
Significant win: Oregon State got its first Pac-10 victory tonight, beating Washington 51-46. Even though I'm a Duck, I can't help but pull for the Beavers......until they get really good ;-)
