Another big news night

Whoa: Ohio State edged #10 Michigan State 54-53. The Spartans didn't get to celebrate their Big Ten title until later, when they found out that Penn State lost to Purdue.

The Tennessee and Ole Miss game was called tonight at 5:24 to go in the second half, as rain from an ongoing storm poured on to the court. Final score was 66-39:

Brian Russell, an assistant director of event operations at Ole Miss, said high winds during the storms caused rain to fly sideways through air vents in the roof.

Russell said the game officials called to get approval from the Southeastern Conference before calling the game.

Tennessee writer Maria M. Cornelius reported that this was a first for Vol Coach Pat Summitt, who has been at Tennessee for 37 years.

__________

Pac-10 action: #11 UCLA held off Arizona, 74-70.

Oregon beat Cal 60-46, ending a seven-game losing streak. The former club coach of three of the Ducks and one Bear - Sean Chambers - was excited to see Oregon play tonight in Berkeley, and will also be on hand at the Stanford game this weekend. (I met Chambers at a Mater Dei tournament in 2009, when some of these girls were still playing for him, and he is very passionate for his kids).
