Mater Dei star is a trainer for now

At today's Michael T White Fall Finish Tournament at Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, CA, there was a bit of role reversal going on. Alexyz Vaioletama, junior forward for the school, wasn't playing with her Irvine Sol club team; she was helping wrap knees and cheering her teammates on from the bench. Word has it that Vaioletama, who helped the USA Basketball U16 team win a gold medal this summer, is sitting out to let a stress fracture heal.

This afternoon I also saw Monarch Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis stroll through the gym during play. I swear she had a USC sweatshirt on, but it was navy blue. Hmmmm.

More tomorrow.

Kaleena gets around. She was at the USJN/Swish Tournament in Anaheim earlier in the day.

College coaches seen were Charli/ASU; Joanne/Cal; Chris D./Uconn; Butts/Arizona, plus many others who I dont know as well.

I was told no Michael Cooper this weekend as he has yet to have taken, or pass(dont know which), a NCAA coaches certification test.
I dont know often the test is given or how hard it is but one would think he could have found time to do this since his early May hiring at USC so he would be available for this weekend.

Team Taurasi, missing a couple of their top players including Chelsea Gray(verbal Duke) and Sage Romberg(verbal Washington St)won a thriller over the team called Baden Elite( from Washington) 48-47 with a basket with 1.8 seconds left. Baden Elite coach made a major fool of himself, IMO, for screaming at the girl who let the Taurasi player score the winning basket. That girl played well the entire game for his team. It was a view tournament coach, and the only one who got poor exposure was you. Thanks for the venting time :)

Canyon Springs HS were one of a handful of HS teams playing in this tournament against club teams. They are very impressive and will be one of the top 5-6 HS teams in the So Cal area this year. Other HS teams I saw were Redondo Union, JSerra, Santa Margarita,(listed as OC- elite)Norco, and someone said a team from Colorado called the Falcons were a HS team too. All of these teams held their own against club level teams.

IM in OC
