Kristen O'Neill a Seattle U assistant?

Controversial website owner Glenn Nelson is reporting that Joan Bonvicini has hired former University of Washington forward Kristen O'Neill as her assistant coach at Seattle University. Nothing on the school's website or online yet.

I don't know Glenn Nelson or his website, but why is he or at least his website controversial?

Didn't O'Neill also play for the Storm?

Anonymous 1: Some claim Glenn plays favorites on his site, hyping the hell out of some players and ignoring other good players who aren't Nike-sponsored.

He has been very quick to ban people from the hoopgurlz message board who disagree with him.

And several months ago he deleted a thread that contained a link to a Britney Griner (one of his favorites) story from another website. He said it was because the piece contained libelous material, but many said he just didn't want to be scooped.

Anonymous 2: She did, albeit very briefly, and mostly was a bench warmer.

So I'm guessing O'Neill was one of his favorites, since he broke the story about Kristen being hired at Seattle.

I guess so - don't know.

sounds like joan is on the right track with her assistants, especially if she's looking to go after local talent on which to build her program. i look forward to catching a few games this year.

JB had this tweet:

Had a great lunch with Hoop Gurlz founder Glenn Nelson & Chris Hanson. Great web-site for girls basketball!

So they hiring of Kristen O'Neill must be true.

If you live in Seattle you can confirm this by going to the Storm game tonight.

Also from JB.

Come meet me today @ Seattle Storm game. Signing autographs at 6:15 PM on the concourse. All the asst.coaches will be there too!
