The New York Times says more relatives and friends of girls' teams show up to support them than do for boys' teams. Hence, they make more money for event organizers.
I haven't attended any boys' tournaments recently, but I can vouch for the presence of entire families at the girls' events I've been to this month. And not just parents from the Southern California area - sometimes from far away states.
Gotta love this part of the story:
“I have three granddaughters,” Dodd said. “They love to shop. But I can tell you my boys darn near love to shop as much as the girls.”
I will add that nowadays, the boys take just about as much time grooming in the morning as the girls do.
