ESPN the magazine will have a WNBA 20th season cover out Friday. I am not at all impressed by a story they put out today (YET ANOTHER Breanna Stewart piece, if you can believe it. And tagging her as the latest "savior of the league," at that).
I'm not hyped about this cover, either, as it seems to leave out - oh, everybody.
Women's basketball fans and young players are criticized for not knowing the history of the sport, including the WNBA. This magazine cover appears to do no better.
If I were putting players on the cover, I'd mandate:
Lisa Leslie, Sheryl Swoopes, Tina Thompson, Rebecca Lobo, Cynthia Cooper, Dawn Staley, Teresa Weatherspoon, Yolanda Griffith, Katie Smith, Lauren Jackson, Tamika Catchings and Sue Bird. You could also argue Delisha Milton-Jones and Taj McWilliams-Franklin.
Then we could start talking about the younger players to add.
