The Sparks just got a little less Tennessee. But what's strange is that I just got this from the Liberty - not the Sparks - and I'm an LA season ticket holder:

New York, Los Angeles & Minnesota Complete Three-Team Trade
The New York Liberty has acquired guard Sidney Spencer from the Los Angeles Sparks in exchange for the Liberty’s first round pick in the 2010 WNBA Draft, it was announced today by team president and general manager Carol Blazejowski. As per team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed. Los Angeles has sent the first round pick and forward Raffaella Masciadri to the Minnesota Lynx in exchange for guard Noelle Quinn.

I'm happy for Sid. Her frustration at unecessarily languishing on the bench last season, after leading the team in 2007, was visible. Hopefully she'll be utilized properly by NY. And the Sparks are back in it next year with a first-round pick. A win-win for all.

What are your thoughts on Noelle Quinn coming to LA? That might be the most intriguing part of this trade to me...aside from the fact that she gets to return to her home"town".
I agree with you about the Quinn trade being the most interesting aspect of this situation. It was pretty predictable after the draft that most of the 2008 Sparks were on their way out the door. The acquisition of Quinn is a surprise.
First of all, Quinn has untapped potential because she was coached for four years by Kathy Oliver - a pitiful excuse for a coach. Who knows what she can really do if she's actually developed further. I predict she'll do well this year, but will flourish even more if Sparks owners Kathy Goodman and Carla Christofferson hire a decent coach after this season.
Hopefully the home stand will work better for Quinn than it did for Lisa Willis. I still have the homemade T-shirts that Willis' family made for her and handed out on 2007 opening night....poor people, unknowingly wasting their money like that.

What I'm trying to figure out is what happened in Quinn's second year...she sort of regressed (statistically)... so given that she's a young player, I entirely agree that there's untapped potential there...
I think it will be incumbent on the Sparks to establish an identity and system early this season and give Quinn a system to work within...
But I think this is a great deal for them -- low risk, high reward...
Sidney is the best and I hope no i KNOW she will do very well in NY
Q, I agree about the identity, and it will be very interesting to see just what that identity is. It'll be young, though.
