Scheduled call between Griner and wife didn't happen

WNBA player news:


A scheduled call between Brittney Griner and wife Cherelle Saturday never happened, due to a staffing/logistical error.


The U.S. State Department says it "deeply regrets" the mistake.


A spokesperson for Russian president Vladimir Putin says Griner isn't a hostage, and gave no indication when she might be released from custody.
