Lynx's "Olympic rhythm" hits a stumbling block.
The Sparks drop post-Rio opener amidst playoff race.
And in view of their anemic performances before Olympic break, it seems the Mercury's Brittney Griner and Diana Taurasi are done "saving themselves for Rio," as I'd heard they were from a very reputable source, and are playing Phoenix ball again.
Taking the WNBA for granted isn't something I'd do.

I'm mystified by the assertion re. Taurasi and Griner. Taurasi only played 18 minutes in this game due to foul trouble, and she ended well below her points average and had no assists. Griner got 6 blocks but it's not like she hadn't done that all season (her season highs were 8 blocks vs. Atlanta and 7 vs. Chicago), and her points (13) were right at season average.
The two players who did have amazing performances that far exceeded their season average were Penny Taylor (22 points on 8-of-9 shooting) and Candice Dupree (16 points on 8-of-10 shooting). Where are the "reliable" sources who can explain why they hadn't played this well before the Olympic break?
I find it journalistically irresponsible to promote a slacker hypothesis about a player -- citing anonymous sources, no less! -- when the evidence doesn't support such a hypothesis.
