West beats East in McDonald's All-American game

West beat East, 80-78, in the McDonald's All-American game tonight:

CHICAGO -- Brianna Turner came up with the big shot and a big stop when her team needed it.

The Notre Dame-bound star hit a jumper with 53 seconds left to lift the West to a 80-78 victory over the East on Wednesday night in the 13th annual McDonald's All-America girls basketball game.

Turner earned MVP honors with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The basket came off a pass from Jordin Canada, who will be headed to UCLA next year. It was the seventh assist of the game for her which broke former Duke star Jasmine Thomas' record.

Canada even got a few sentences in the LA Times, which means that hell must have frozen over.

There are no breaks in basketball

And then there were Four

Last two tickets punched:

The heart attack game was Maryland over Louisville, 76-73.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The final three seconds felt like forever for the Maryland Terrapins.

Alyssa Thomas could only watch from her back as Shoni Schimmel's potential game-tying 3-pointer flew to the basket before harmlessly clanging off the back rim and setting off a wild celebration by the Terps.

Yes, Maryland is headed back to the Final Four for the first time since they won it all back in 2006 after holding off Louisville 76-73 Tuesday night at the buzzer in the Cardinals' home arena.

On the other side of the country, Stanford crawled from behind to beat North Carolina, 74-65.

"People were making plays based on heart. It was just a heart game," Ogwumike said. "I have the utmost faith in my teammates."

Since the disappointment of that early exit against Georgia in the Spokane Regional semifinals, Ogwumike, Ruef and their fellow seniors have made it their mission to get back to women's basketball's biggest stage.

All season long, Hall of Fame coach Tara VanDerveer called for more of her players to do their part, and Ogwumike's supporting cast delivered when it mattered most.

The AP says that UConn and Notre Dame are the stars of the Final Four, but I disagree. The playing field is even.

We are ready for Nashville.
